For Matthew Freas—better known as “Freasy”—the outdoors has never been something he simply does. It’s where he’d rather be.
Fishing, hunting, learning new water, chasing the next bite, and spending long days outside have shaped the way Matthew approaches just about everything: prepare well, pay attention, keep learning, and don’t quit when conditions get tough.
Freasy Outdoors grew naturally from that way of life. What began as a passion for fishing and the outdoors is becoming something bigger—a way to share that experience with other people and help them create some unforgettable days of their own.

Catching fish matters. Of course it does. But a great guided trip should offer more than a picture at the end of the day.
Matthew wants clients to understand why they’re fishing a particular stretch of water, how conditions affect fish movement, what presentation makes sense, and how to recognize the little things that can turn an ordinary day into a successful one.
That means Freasy Outdoors isn’t about simply handing someone a rod and telling them where to cast.
It’s about sharing knowledge, adapting to the conditions, helping clients become better anglers—and making sure everyone enjoys the experience along the way.
Whether you’ve been fishing your entire life or you’re holding a rod for the first time, you’ll get the same preparation, patience, and attention.
WESTERN NEW YORK IS HOME WATER

Few places offer the variety of fishing found across Western New York. From tributaries filled with migrating salmon and steelhead to trout streams, the Finger Lakes, and the vast waters of Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, every season brings a different opportunity.
Freasy Outdoors is being built to take advantage of exactly that.
The business launches in Fall 2026 with guided walking river and stream adventures, including seasonal opportunities for salmon, steelhead and trout.
Beginning Spring 2027, Freasy Outdoors will expand onto the water with guided boat fishing, opening the door to walleye and other seasonal fisheries throughout the Finger Lakes and Great Lakes region.
The goal isn't to build a business around one fish.
It's to follow the seasons, understand the conditions, and pursue the best experiences Western New York has to offer.

You don't need years of experience or expensive equipment to fish with Freasy Outdoors.
Some clients will arrive wanting to catch their first salmon.
Others will already know exactly how they like to fish and want someone who can help them learn unfamiliar water.
Families may simply want an incredible day outside together.
That's why every trip starts with the people taking it.
Matthew adjusts the day to your experience, goals and comfort level. Ask questions. Learn techniques. Understand the water. Or simply enjoy fishing and let Freasy handle the details.
There is no right level of experience required—just a desire to get outside and fish.

Tournament fishing is becoming another important part of Freasy Outdoors.
Competition demands something different from an angler: making decisions quickly, understanding changing conditions, dialing in equipment, finding fish under pressure, and constantly evaluating what worked—and what didn't.
That mindset carries directly into guiding.
Because there is always another technique to learn, another piece of water to understand, and another way to become a better angler.
The day you think you know everything about fishing is probably the day fishing proves you wrong.
